Decoding the Jargon

On-page SEO

Also called on-site SEO

SEOTerm

Everything you change on the page itself to help it rank and earn clicks: the content, title, headings, images and their alt text, internal links and the URL.

Example

For her 'linen kurtas' category page, Meera rewrites the title, adds a short buying guide above the products, describes each fabric properly and adds alt text to every photo.

How you'll hear it

“Before we chase links, fix the on-page basics: the title and the H1 do not even mention linen.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Technical SEO: the site-wide plumbing (crawling, speed, indexing). On-page is about the content and markup of a given page.
