Decoding the Jargon

Off-page SEO

Also called off-site SEO

SEOTerm

Work done away from your own site that affects how search engines see it, mostly earning links and mentions from other sites, and reviews and listings for local businesses.

Example

A Pune fashion blogger reviews Meera's handloom collection and links to her site. A local news site mentions her store. Both are off-page SEO results.

How you'll hear it

“Our on-page is decent; what we lack is off-page. Nobody credible links to us.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Link buying: paying for links that pass ranking credit is against Google's spam policies. Off-page SEO means earning them.
