Decoding the Jargon

Content calendar

Also called editorial calendar

Content creationTerm

A schedule showing what content goes out, on which channel, on which date, and who owns it. It turns the content strategy into a weekly to-do list.

Example

Meera's content calendar has a row for each day: Monday a styling Reel, Wednesday a WhatsApp catalogue, Friday a customer-fit video. Festive dates such as Navratri and Diwali are marked weeks ahead so shoots happen in time.

How you'll hear it

“Put the Diwali shoot on the content calendar now, or we will be posting it late.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Content strategy: the strategy decides what and why; the calendar decides when and who.

In India: Indian calendars usually need festival and wedding-season planning (Navratri, Diwali, regional new years), which differ by state; plan by the festivals your audience actually celebrates.
