An informal term for when an account's posts are limited or hidden from others without a clear notice. Instagram says there is no single definition. It points users to Account Status to see if content has been removed or made ineligible for recommendations to non-followers.
Example
Meera's Reels suddenly reach only her followers. She checks Account Status and finds one Reel was marked as not eligible to be recommended to non-followers.
How you'll hear it
“Before you say we're shadowbanned, check Account Status for recommendation issues.”
Don't confuse it with
- Account restriction: an official action shown in Account Status.
- A normal drop in reach: often due to content or posting changes, not any penalty.
