A search that ends on the results page without a click to any website, because the answer was already shown there, for example in a featured snippet, a knowledge panel, a map listing or an AI Overview.
Example
Someone searches 'Meera's store timings', sees 'Open until 9 pm' in her Google Business Profile, and walks in without visiting her website. Her website gets no click, but she got the customer.
How you'll hear it
“Website clicks are flat because most local searches end on the map; look at calls and direction requests too.”
What it helps you decide
Which searches to treat as visibility and brand work rather than traffic, where to measure results (Business Profile actions, branded searches, calls), and which content to build for clicks.
Where people misread it
People read falling website clicks as falling interest. For local and quick-answer searches, the customer may still act, just without visiting the site. Measure what they did, not only clicks.
The story
Clicks that do not show up as clicks
Meera's Search Console shows only 120 website clicks a month from local searches. She almost cuts her local SEO work.
Then she opens her Google Business Profile performance report for the same month.
| Website clicks from Search Console | 120 |
| Calls from her Business Profile | 90 |
| Direction requests from her Business Profile | 210 |
| Customer actions from search | 420 |
|---|
Most people never needed her website. They saw her hours, reviews and location on the results page and called or came over. These searches looked like zero clicks but produced 420 actions.
So she keeps her profile accurate, posts new arrivals there and answers reviews. For her website, she focuses on searches where people do want to browse, such as specific kurta styles.
Figures are illustrative. Store visits cannot be fully tied to search, so treat these as signals, not exact sales.
Don't confuse it with
- Low organic CTR: may come from a weak title. Zero-click is about the search being satisfied on the page itself.
