Employee advocacy

Also called Employee advocacy program

Social mediaTerm

When a company's employees share its content and news on their own social profiles, usually LinkedIn. Companies often run it as a program with ready-to-share posts.

Example

A Pune B2B software firm asks its 30 staff to share the launch post of its new product on LinkedIn from their own profiles, with their own one-line comment.

How you'll hear it

“The company page gets little reach; employee advocacy will get the post in front of their networks.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Influencer marketing: paying outside creators.
  • Employer branding: content aimed at future hires, which employees may or may not share.
