Decoding the Jargon

Drip campaign

Also called Drip sequence, autoresponder series

AutomationTerm

A pre-written series of messages sent automatically on a schedule after someone does something, such as joining a list. Each person moves through the series from their own start date.

Example

Anyone who joins Meera's list gets email 1 on day 0 (welcome), email 2 on day 3 (how to choose fabric for Pune summers) and email 3 on day 7 (a store visit invitation).

How you'll hear it

“New subscribers go into the five-email welcome drip before they get regular newsletters.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Newsletter: sent to everyone on the same day; a drip is timed per person.
  • Workflow: the wider automation logic, which can include branches and actions beyond sending messages.
