How quickly a page loads and becomes usable. It is usually measured with tools such as PageSpeed Insights, which show both lab results and, where available, real-user Core Web Vitals.
Example
Meera runs her product page through PageSpeed Insights. The lab score is low because of unoptimised images and a chat widget that loads early.
How you'll hear it
“Page speed on mobile is dragging. Shoppers on 4G are waiting for a banner before they see a kurta.”
Don't confuse it with
- Core Web Vitals: three specific metrics Google uses. Page speed is the broader idea.
- Lab score: a simulated test; field data is what real visitors experienced.
