The first, most prominent line of a piece of content or an ad. Its job is to make the right person stop and read the rest.
Example
Meera tests two headlines for a blog post: 'Our new arrivals' and 'What to wear to your first office Diwali party'. The second names a real situation her customer is in, so more people open it.
How you'll hear it
“Nobody reads past the headline, so spend the time there.”
Don't confuse it with
- Hook: a hook is the opening seconds of a video; a headline is the opening line of text. They do the same job in different formats.
