Decoding the Jargon

Buyer persona

Also called customer persona, persona

Content creationTerm

A short, semi-fictional profile of a typical buyer, built from research: who they are, what they need, what worries them and how they decide.

Example

Meera's main persona is 'Priya, 28, IT analyst in Hinjewadi, dresses for hybrid office, buys on weekends, checks Instagram, asks fit questions on WhatsApp before visiting'. Captions and shoot ideas are checked against Priya.

How you'll hear it

“Would our persona actually stop for this ad?”

Don't confuse it with

  • ICP: an ICP describes the ideal company (or customer type) to target; a persona describes the person inside it.
  • Target audience: a broad group; a persona is a specific, named representative of it.
