Decoding the Jargon

Lead

Also called Prospect, enquiry

AutomationTerm

A person or company that has shown interest and shared a way to contact them, such as filling a form or sending a message. They have not bought yet.

Example

A woman sees Meera's Instagram ad and sends a WhatsApp message asking if the green saree is in stock. She is now a lead: interested, reachable, not yet a customer.

How you'll hear it

“We got 60 leads from the weekend ad, but only half left a phone number that works.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Customer: someone who has already paid.
  • Contact: anyone in your database, including people who never showed buying interest.
