Decoding the Jargon

Event

Also called GA4 event, tracked event

Performance marketingTerm

In GA4 and ad platforms, a record of something a user did on your site or app, such as viewing a page, adding to cart or buying.

Example

On Meera's site, GA4 records page_view when someone opens a product page, add_to_cart when they add a kurta and purchase when they pay, along with the ₹2,000 value.

How you'll hear it

“The add_to_cart event isn't firing on mobile, so the funnel looks broken.”

Don't confuse it with

  • Key event: an event you have marked as important to the business.
  • Session: a visit, which contains many events.
